TNM WORLD TOURNAMENT

Hey, I'm back. It's time, it's time, it's TNM Tournament time...again. I got some positive feedback after I filed the last installement, so I'm in a positive mood and read to go. Thanks to the three people who e-mailed me to say what a good idea this tournament is. As usual, I'll ask you to first of all check out previous editions of the TNM Tournament, if you haven't already, before reading this one. Yep, this is the south region of the tournament. Let's do this thang. Here's the primer, which I leave in every TNM World Tournament column:

There are four regions (like Coale's version): northeast, far east, south east and south. I've included some unused or unsigned ECW talent in the south east (or WCW) region. Unlike the Wrestleline one, I've decided to include injured wrestlers. Now I can include Kenta Kobashi. My version is mainly centered around wrestlers with the best work-rate in each region, but, as you can see, there are some exceptions.

This week I'll be siming the south region using TNM. Naturally, I'll be siming the whole tournament with TNM (probably the best wrestling sim around). Due to my very limited knowledge of the state of the game in Mexico, I'm not going to seed the wrestlers this time arond. Instead, I'll just write the names down below:

Black Warrior
Villano IV
Jerry Estrada
Dr. Cerebro
Felino
Juventud Guerrera
Super Crazy
Atlantis
Silver King
La Parka
Shocker
Rey Bucanero
Ultimo Guerrero
Blue Panther
Psicosis
Dr. Wagner Jr.

Introduction to south region

There are a lot of very talented wrestlers in this region. Legends like Blue Panther, Jerry Estrada, and Silver King will go up against newer guys like Super Crazy, Juventud Guerrero, and Psicosis. It'll be interesting to see how the old guys face up the new guys. Wins over the legends are considered more important in Mexico than in North America. Let the mask wearing, and lucha libre begin!

The Tournament

Round 1:

Black Warrior made Villano IV submit to the Nudo in
0:09:18.
Rating: *** 1/2
What a region opener this one was! Great match.

Jerry Estrada made Dr. Cerebro submit to the Jerry-Lock in 0:17:29.
Rating: ***
Jerry Estrada and Dr. Cerebro continue the great wrestling with another good match.

Felino pinned Juventud Guerrera with the Splash Mountain in 0:09:36.
Rating: *** 1/4
Felino takes the win. And that move ain't no Theme Park ride, either.

Super Crazy pinned Atlantis with the Crazy Driver in 0:20:59.
Rating: ***
More good wrestling, Crazy takes the victory.

Silver King pinned La Parka with the Airplane Spin in 0:11:42. La Parka tore his left triceps.
Rating: ** 1/2
Unfortunately, La Parka tore his left triceps, so this match wasn't as good as it could have been.

Shocker made Rey Bucanero submit to a kneelock submission in 0:06:39.
Rating: **
This match was a little dissappointing, considering the wrestlers involved.

Ultimo Guerrero pinned Blue Panther with the Northern Lights Suplex in 0:10:54.
Rating: * 1/2
Not the worst match of the tournament, but a step down from the greatness we'd seen beforehand.

Psicosis pinned Dr. Wagner Jr. with the Flying Legdrop in 0:10:27.
Rating: ***
Psicosis goes over in another good match.

Quarter Finals:

Jerry Estrada pinned Black Warrior after a spinebuster slam in 0:15:43.
Rating: **** 1/4
Jerry Estrada and Black Warrior wrestle one of the best matches of the region.

Super Crazy pinned Felino with the Crazy Driver in 0:08:38.
Rating: *** 1/4
Super Crazy advances to the Semi Finals, again using his Crazy Driver finisher.

Silver King pinned Shocker with the Airplane Spin in 0:15:20.
Rating: ***
Silver King goes over.

Psicosis pinned Ultimo Guerrero with the Flying Legdrop in 0:15:07.
Rating: ***
Another *** match for Psicosis, and another win.

Semi Finals:

Super Crazy pinned Jerry Estrada after a screwdriver in 0:10:24.
Rating: ***
Super Crazy goes over with an impressive victory.

Silver King pinned Psicosis after a spinning leg lariat in 0:03:23.
Rating: * 1/4
Silver King, impressive throughout takes the victory in this less than spectacular match.

Finals:

Silver King pinned Super Crazy with the Airplane Spin in 0:12:18.
Rating: ****
This match was a fitting end to the region (the region with the best match star average). Silver King takes the victory and the region with a win over Super Crazy.

Tournament Aftermath

This region was the region with the best match star average, and with the wrestlers involved, most could tell it would go that well. Plenty of ***+ action for wrestling fans to eat up. The ****1/4 classic between Jerry Estrada and Black Warrior was particulary entertaining, as was the eye catching **** Final between Silver King and Super Crazy. It came down to young vs. old, as speculated from the start, and the veteran came through.

Silver King advances to the next stage of the TNM Tournament, and I can't wait to see what will happen next.

That's all for the tournament this time around. Next time, the Finals of the tournament kick off. Join me then, or die. No, I'm kidding. Seriously.
