WWF Monday Night Raw, shown 19.4.93 (but taped 12.4) from the Mid-Hudson Civic Centre in Poughkeepsie, NY on the USA Network. Your hosts are Vince McMahon, the Macho Man Randy Savage, and Rambling Rob Bartlett, who provide all commentary. We start with short bits from Money, Limited and the Beverly Brothers. Both predict swift victory for their team. Rrazor Rramon v. Virgil. Several lockups, and each time Ramon heads for the ropes and makes it. McMahone denounces this as cowardice. Virgil with small package from nowhere for 2. "Virgil" chant, which I'm not all so sure is spontaneous...the Poughkeepsie crowd loved Ramon the last time RAW was taped there. Again Ramon uses the ropes, but this time Virgil pushes Ramon away angrily, then punches. Ramon deviously gains the advantage, however, culminating in a boring abdominal stretch. Finally Virgil is out with a hip toss, but fails to drop the elbow on Ramon. Ramon with repeated body slams, then he slaps the face for good measure. Ramon once again goes to the ropes, but this time uses them as a weapon, choking Virgil. But Razor runs into the boot. Virgil clothesline from the corner, but unfortunately he misses the second one and lands spread-eagled on the mat. Ramon immediately hits the razor's edge for the 3. The Giant, Gonzales v. L.A. Gore. Let's run over the full repertoire of moves. Gonzales picks up Gore by the head, bringing him into the ring. Choke, clothesline, choke, boot, slap, chock, throat slam, 3. Yep, the whole nine yards. Luna Vachon interview, spiced up with still photos from WrestleMania, "exclusive" footage of Vachon attacking Sensational Sherri at the first aid station (presumably included on the video release of WM9), and last week's catfight. Tatanka v. Art Thomas. Guess. Money, Limited v. Promos: ICOPRO (Steiners), Slim Jim (Savage), Sega game carts Finally, the Beverly Brothers. No crowd support evident either way. Bartlett calls them "the Beverly Hillbillies," har har. The Bevs get jumped, and after a brawl Blake is the only one left in the ring. DiBiase gets in to start. Dueling arm bars. DiBiase with shoulder block, bodyslam. Blake with slam. Tag to Beau, who works the Multimillion Dollar man over. Tag to Blake. The commentators are stressing the outstanding continuity by the Bevs. Blake with arm scissors. DiBiase mangaes to get up, but Blake pulls the hair. More quick tags, and DiBiase doesn't get HIS tag due to a "distracted" ref. More tags, more continuity. Again Irwin tags and again the ref misses. Of course, while the ref is busy getting Irwin out of the ring, there's all sorts of illegal double-teaming going on. DiBiase finally throws an elbow and tags Schyster in. Blake makes him miss and tags. Beau and Blake take turns being brutal with Schyster. Body slam, 2 count. Blake with arm bar. Irwin powers out, but Blake uses the suspenders to take him back to his corner, when Beau chokes him with the tag rope (luckily, the ref is once again distracted). We take an ad break. When we come back, Irwin has Beau in a hold I don't know the name of. The ref is somehow distracted (go figure) and DiBiase comes in to take Irwin's place, resuming the hold. Some general brawling by Beau and Ted until Ted puts his head down. Both men go down after Beau uses his last bit of strength to drive DiBiase's head to the mat. Of course, Irwin gets tagged and prevents Beau from doing the same. Beau manages a flying clothesline, and both men are down again. Since this is only the second time, you know DiBiase gets tagged and prevents Beau from doing the same. Beau manages a neck breaker, and both men are down. Since this is the THIRD time, Blake gets tagged in. Blake does the house o fire with DiBiase, and tags to Beau (Savage thinks this is a bad idea). Beau all over DiBiase and a 2 count (Savage now thinks this is a good idea). IRS comes in to break the count, so Blake comes in to throw him out. Double team on DiBiase, reminiscent of last week's triple team on Scott Steiner. As if on cue, DiBiase is held for a Beverly clothesline, but at the last minute, he escapes only to have one Beverly clothesline the other (I guess they'll be able to understand and kiss and make up now). Anyway, DiBiase gets the pinfall with a small package. WWF Mania ad. Vince McMahon interviews Bret Hart. He's going back to the top[e, and the first guy on his "hit list" is the Narcissist, Lex Luger. Clips of Luger knock out Hart with the elbow at the WrestleMania brunch (from the WM9 video, natch) are played over the interview. Allusion to a loaded elbow. Bam Bam Bigelow v. Phil Apollo - Luckily, Doink II makes yet another ringside appearance to amuse those of us not interested in the squash, but wait, there's more. After Bigelow does the headbutt from on high to get the pin, he goes up and gives Apollo a second one for get measure. Before he can do it a THIRD time, who should appear but Friar Ferguson. Bigelow wants to hurt Apollo, but the Monk won't let him. Eventually, Ferguson hits Bigelow with an amazing dropkick to the small of the back and does his dance. Promos: WWF Figures (Bulldog?), Load Hugger Cargo Nets, Slim Jim Again (Savage again) Next week: Crush/Narcissist. Goody.
