One World Leader Attitude - WWF

TV-14-DLV All the WWF stars and backstage personnel, wearing black armbands with "OWEN" or "OH" written on them, stand on the ramp and stage as a hush falls over the arena and Howard Finkel speaks: "Ladies and gentlemen, may I ask you to please rise and join the WWF Superstars as we toll the bell ten times and pay our respects to Owen Hart."

Ten bells.

Then an ovation.

"And now ladies and gentlemen, may I direct your attention to the TitanTron as we play a video tribute to Owen Hart."

Vince McMahon voices over the words which almost match those seen on the frontpage of the WWF website:

"Last night a tragic accident took the life of Owen Hart. He was 34.

There are no words that can express the profound sorrow felt today by so many of us who knew and loved this very special human being.

Fans throughout the world shared a small portion of Owen's life through his various ring personas. But to know Owen Hart, the human being, was pure joy. Owen loved this business and lived to entertain both in, and out of the ring.

He was a consummate performer and a legendary prankster. In the extended family of professional wrestlers respect does not come easily and is not taken lightly. Owen Hart had that respect. He was more than just "one of the boys..." Owen Hart was a friend and a brother to all. Our locker room, and our lives, will never ever be the same again.

A loving son, brother, uncle, husband and father, Owen is survived by his wife Martha, his son Oje and daughter Athena. Our prayers go out to them and the entire Hart family. With heavy hearts and the deepest of sympathies for his family we say good-bye. If the legacy of a man's life is measured by the lives he's touched and how much he is loved....then a big piece of Owen Hart will live on - in all of us."

In Memory of Owen Hart - 1965-1999

Another ovation.

Your hosts are JIM ROSS and JERRY LAWLER. RAW is on the air and live from the Kiel Center in St. Louis, MO 25.5.99. Ross says tonight will be a two hour tribute to Owen Hart - a celebration of his life. Ten unique matchups tonight and many candid moments from superstars sharing what Owen meant to them.

MICK FOLEY is the first to share memories of Owen.

On the USA Network, Monday Night RAW is sponsored by Smint.

Happy Hour is next.

BRADSHAW with a few words

JEDOUBLEF JADOUBLEREDOUBLET (with De-bra) v. TEST - Jarrett gets the mic and says "Just for the record, Owen never was a nugget!" Ross announces that Owen Hart Memorial Tributes may be made to Owen's favourite charity:

The Alberta Children's Hospital
1820 Richmond Road SW
Calgary, AB T2T 5C7
CANADA
Jarrett rushes Test as he poses on the turnbuckle. Head to the canvas. Laid across the second rope, Bossman straddle, Fargo strut, back on him with a stomp. Head to the turnbuckle, Test reverses a whip into the corner, but Jarrett puts up a leg. Test ducks and hits a clothesline when they turn around. Test with a fireman's carry into a faceplant. Off the ropes, sidewalk slam from Test. 1, 2, no. Debra thinking about climbing onto the apron as Test hits a powerslam. Ross announces that events from Wednesday to Sunday have been cancelled. Test off the ropes but eats a boot. Jarrett with the armbar takedown. Off the ropes, reverse, clothesline by Test. Off the ropes again, reverse, head down, gutwrench into a powerbomb for 2. Now Debra IS up on the apron and the top's unbuttoned. Test - fondles his own nipple? Then puts a hand on Debra's behind - Debra with a big slap, and Jarrett with a reverse Russian legsweep - figure four? No, it's the Sharpshooter! Test gives it up. (2:40)

DROZ relates a story about Owen

X-PAC & THROUGH HELL FIRE AND BRIMSTONE KANE v. EDGE & GANGREL (with Christian) for the tag team Championship - Ross talks Lawler through Kane's entrance and Lawler doesn't shriek. Ross fails to warn Lawler about the firey ringposts, though, so he only goes 1 for 2. Ross compares the Brood to the Freebirds, which makes me go "hey what about the Hardy Boyz already?" Tonight, Shamrock vs. Holly, Mankind vs. Gunn, Brown & Henry vs. Acolytes, Godfater vs. Road Dogg, Triple H vs. Snow, Big Show vs. Goldust, and the Rock vs. Venis, and you'll see Austin. Edge and 'pac start. Feeling out process. Lockup, side headlock from X-Pac. Wristlock is reversed, off the ropes, shoulderblock by Edge, clothesline is ducked, spinning heel kick is not. Lawler: "You know those English birds were pretty smitten with me!" Ross: "Any stories you can tell us? Never mind, I'll read it on the Internet." Side headlock from Edge, powers out, shoulderblock from Edge, over, leapfrog, somersault under, kick from X-Pac. Tag to Gangrel. X-Pac steps back and tags Kane to a big pop from the crowd. Kick to the gut from Kane, throat chop, off the ropes, Gangrel ducks, Edge in with him - double DDT! Kane pops up and takes Edge off the ropes into a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker - Gangrel in and there's a back bodydrop for him - CHRISTIAN in and there's a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for him. Edge into the corner - pounding on him - X-Pac asks for the tag and finally gets it. Series of martial arts kicks from X-Pac, who is distracted in getting to Gangrel on the outside, so Edge knocks him outside. Brought back in, X-Pac ducks a charge in the corner and hits an enziguiri - both men tag - Kane in with a top rope flying clothesline on Kane. Edge off the ropes, big boot - big boot for Gangrel. Clothesline for Edge, who falls into the corner for the broncobuster from X-Pac as Kane takes out Christian again. Chokeslam for Gangrel, then he presses X-Pac onto Gangrel for the pin. (4:03)

RAW is WAR is brought to you tonight by FRAM, and Chef Boyardee (Rock's new Chef Boyardee commercial debuts next week on wwf.com!) and Castrol GTX.

HARDY BOYZ (with Michael Hayes) v. TAKA MICHINOKU & (SHO) FUNAKI - fresh from jobber duty on superAstros, I welcome back Kaientai to RAW, as does Jim Ross. Fast 'n' furious back and forth matchup with a lot of high impact manoeuvres but it's basically a squash - nice move has Hayes, on the floor, whip Funaki into a top rope to the floor dropkick from Jeff. Michinoku DOES get to do his cool plancha from the top to the floor but Matt ends up pinning Funaki after a snap neckbreaker. (3:20)

WWF official BRUCE PRICHARD relates memories of Owen

Clips from Undertaker's narration to open last night's pay-per-view are interspersed with highlights of last night's WWF title match - normally this would shill the encore presentation, but as it has been cancelled, it instead serves as a Very Special Look at Undertaker winning the WWF Title. 'taker quotes Aphex Twin's "Come to Daddy!"

DUSTIN RUNNELS relates a pretty funny story about Harley Race's chili and Owen's sabotage thereof, followed by Race's use of a stun gun to gain revenge

HARDCORE HOLLY v. KING KEN SHAMROCK - feeling out process, lockup, waistlock from Holly, Shamrock reverses and takes him down. Holly with a headlock, Shamrock takes him over in a nifty move for 2. Lockup, Holly to the armbar into the headlock - Shamrock pushes him off - dueling hiptoss attempts, Shamrock rolls him for 2. Both men up again. Nice mat sequence here. Holly with a few shots, off the ropes, Shamrock ducks, and hits a leg lariat, dropkick, ugliest huracanrana in the business, armbar takedown into the anklelock, and Holly taps. (1:48) Shamrock scales the turnbuckles and points to the ceiling.

FAAROOQ shares memories of Owen

TEST shares a humourous practical joke Owen played on him

MR. ASS v. MANKIND - Gunn breaks character by taking the mic and saying "Now I know I haven't done this in a while, so I hope that you didn't forget it - IF YOU'RE NOT DOWN WITH OWEN HART, I GOT TWO WORDS FOR YA!!" For some reason, Mankind's graphic says "with PMS" but no. RAW credits appear after Mick's entrance, followed by the TV-14-DLV ratings box. Ross relates a funny story of Owen hiding his hat on three consecutive TV tapings. Gunn takes control in the corner, meanwhile, then drops his hot pants to reveal his thong - uggh. Mankind fires back, concluding in a back bodydrop and clothesline that takes Gunn out of the ring. Head to the STEEL steps and Gunn collapses. Right hand. Back in the ring, right hand, off the ropes, Gunn dropkicks the left knee. Focusing on the left knee with stomping and then standing on it. More kicks to the knee. Gunn drapes the knee over the second rope and pulls. Mankind fights out but Gunn keeps kicking. Chop block. Gunn goes outside for a chair. Before he can use it, though, Mankind pulls out Mr. Socko and applies the Mandible Claw. For some reason, referee "Blind" Earl Hebner continues his 10 count and Mankind wins. (COR 2:59) Mankind takes the mic. "Owen Hart, this one's for you - whooooooo!"

JEFF JARRETT shares his memories of Owen in a very moving moment

EDGE shares his memories of Owen - he and Christian fought Hart and Jarrett Saturday night in his last match

D'LO BROWN & MIZARK HENRY (with Ivory and aieeeee that scarf) v. ACOLYTES - the address for the Alberta Children's Hospital is again placed on screen. Faarooq and Henry start - Faarooq tries a shoulderblock but Henry isn't moving. Faarooq goes downstairs instead in an attempt to take him down - to the knee, to the knee, shoulderblock works. But he runs into a powerslam. Tag to Brown, but Faarooq manages a jawbreaker and tags out. Off the ropes, Brown with a kick, right hand, Owen-esque "whooo!" but Bradshaw hits a clothesline. Bradshaw all over Brown, then tossing him out to Faarooq, who slams his head on the STEEL steps. Brown brought back in for a Bradshaw side Russian legsweep for 2. Tag to Faarooq, gutshot, right hand, off the ropes, Brown manages a faceplant, then a standing flourish legdrop. Right hands to Faarooq, but he comes back with a DDT. Tag to Bradshaw. Off the ropes by Faarooq into a flying shoulderblock from Bradshaw. Lawler says Owen Hart's funeral information can be found on wwf.com. Tag to Faarooq - still on Brown - clothesline ducked - kick to the head - tag to Bradshaw - tag to Henry. Henry off the ropes with a big shoulderblock - house afire! But the Acolytes come back with doubleteaming - Brown tags in when nobody's looking, double shoulderblock takes down Henry - Faarooq ducks a Brown clothesline but runs into a straight right from Bradshaw. Kanyon & Raven-esque doubleteam neckbreaker for 2 - Henry breaks the count. Bradshaw takes Henry out of the ring while Faarooq sets up Brown - but Brown ducks the big kick, then surprises Bradshaw with a rollup for the 1, 2, 3. (4:01) Faarooq makes his "whaa?" face. The replay has Pat Patterson's name on it, which does not go unnoticed by Jim Ross.

Replay of the Undertaker not-a-promo

HARDCORE HOLLY relates a memory of Owen - the night on Monday Night RAW when then Intercontinental champion Owen put Holly over in a nontitle match in Bob Holly's hometown is one of my favourite memories, too

ROAD DOGG v. GODFATHER (with eight - no, four ho's) for the Intercontinental championship - "Tonight I ain't in the mood, but let's make some noise up in this beeeatch - Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages. D-Generation X proudly brings to you - you know sometimes I just don't understaaand this woooooooooorld - you know who I am, it ain't about me, it's about the King of Hearts this evening." True to form, Godfather comes out alone and gets booed - so he calls on the ho train and the crowd falls back in his pocket. Ross relates the story of Owen pantsing him in the pool of the Wrestle Vessle. "And there was some serious shrinkage!" "You know what Road Dogg - instead of me and you just kicking the hell out of each other - especially today - why don't me, you, and these fine ho's over here, man we go downtown St. Louis and we light it up all night long!" "Whaddaya say you and me go burn one and tell some Owen stories?" And out they walk. (No contest) I am ALMOST compelled to say something about the (in)appropriateness of marijuana references tonight but I'm just not in the mood

PAUL BEARER delivers a eulogy in tribute to Owen

X-PAC shares memories of Owen

The 1999 King of the Ring is brought to you by Super Soaker! It's Sunday, 27 June

AL SNOW (with Head) v. TRIPLE H (with Chyna) in a nontitle, non-Hardcore match - lockup, Snow powers off, H knocks him down, off the ropes, heel kick from Snow - punches, whip is reversed, clothesline ducked, Snow takes H outside with a shot to the head. Baseball slide dropkick and now they're brawling on the outside. Repeated rights and he's slid back in - nice backslide from Snow on the way back in but H hits the high knee off the ropes. Now it's Triple H with the offense, kicks, punches, kick, choke. Referee "Blind" Mike Chioda gets to 5 but doesn't DQ him. Choke on the second rope. Chioda pulls him off and while they're talking, Chyna hits a right hand. Vertical suplex coming up - there we go. H looking to drop the knee, and does. 1, 2, kickout. Snow slides out of a whip, then hits a lariat. Arms locked, headbutts from Snow - HELMSLEY FLOP! Ross: "Looks like he just got off Space Mountain!" Snow with a back bodydrop. Scoop and a slam (should have been a Snowplow), then he climbs to the top - but the moonsault finds only canvas. H grabs him and there's the Pedigree. G'night. (3:42) Triple H points to his heart, then to the camera. "Owen - we love you, man. We love you."

ROAD DOGG relates memories of Owen

GERALD BRISCO, one younger brother of a Superstar to another, praises Owen's drive and desire to entertain

WELL IT'S THE BIG SHOW v. GOLDUST (with Blue Meanie) - Goldust is wearing his armband around his neck. This turns more into a Handicap match (as if it matters to the Big Show!) when Goldust exhorts Meanie into taking the first shot. A myriad of forearms are absorbed, but before Meanie can go up and down in the chokeslam, Goldust strikes from behind with a Golotta. Double whip - Big Show runs through the double lariat and hits a double flying clothesline of his own. ahhhhhTHECHOKESLAAAM on Goldust! ahhhhTHECHOKESLAAAAM on Blue Meanie! Big Show lays across both men - 1, 2, 3 (1:02)

DEBRA relates memories of Owen - "you tend to take people for granted because you're always with them ... you know, life is very very precious, and you should really - you know, not take people for granted."

SHANE McMAHON relates a memory of dueling pranks with Owen - first time tonight we've heard the name "Bret Hart"

VAL VENIS v. THE ROCK - The War Zone credits appear after Venis' entry. "Hello, ladies! Ladies, rest assured the Big Valbowski will have his day in the sun - but tonight, Owen Hart, every one of these people are here to celebrate YOU." The Rock also gets mic time. "Finally, the Rock has come back to St. Louis! Owen, it's with great pride that the most electrifying man in sports entertainment can come here tonight and entertain you! Now having said that, the Rock knows that you want him to kick his roody poo - Owen this is your night and dammit you know the Rock loved you like no other. SO it's with great pleasure that the Rock, along with the millions - and millions of the Rock's fans dedicate the People's Elbow to you tonight - one time, Oje - if you smellllllllll - what the Rock - is cookin'!" Lockup, Venis with rights, arm wringer, Rock punches, arm wringer, Venis with a right. Venis grabs the casted arm and bumps and grinds, but Rock reverses into the Rock Bottom - we're short on time here - and here's the People's Elbow. 1, 2, 3. (:56) I think the crowd boos but it's turned down.

Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler have one more time to say goodbye. Ross: "I hope that I can be as good as him - so that I can see him again someday." Lawler: "Don't ever leave home without telling the people you love what you think of them."

STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN walks to the ring, catches a pair of cold ones, and turns to the TitanTron, where a graphic appears. Austin turns to the graphic, pops open a beer, toasts the screen, and drinks in his honour.
